For the first time in its 170-year history, the Vienna Philharmonic has commissioned a new orchestral work from one of its members. Time Recycling, the new work by René Staar, has been premiered on 17 May in the »Golden Hall« of the Vienna Musikverein, conducted by Semyon Bychkov.

Further performances, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, took place in summer 2014 at the Salzburg Festival and at Grafenegg, and then—as Asian premiere—in September in the Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
